Argonne National Laboratory
United States

The Atomic, Molecular and Optical Group in the Chemical Sciences & Engineering Division of Argonne National Laboratory solicits applicants to fill a research staff position at the early or mid-career scientist level. The candidate for this new position will be expected to develop a research program that complements and enhances the existing efforts in the group to study the interaction of radiation with matter, with an emphasis on chemical systems of interest to the Chemical Sciences, Geosciences and Biosciences Division of DOE. Candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas is highly desirable: x-ray spectroscopies and scattering using synchrotron radiation and free-electron lasers, optical ultrafast techniques including high harmonic generation and nonlinear spectroscopies and applying those techniques to study ultrafast dynamics of molecules in the gas and solution phase. A familiarity and experience with using large datasets for correlation spectroscopies would be an asset. The successful candidate will join a collaborative research group with diverse expertise in atomic physics, laser physics, chemical dynamics, and computational science in a vibrant national laboratory setting anchored by the Advanced Photon Source, Argonne Leadership Computing Facility and Center for Nanoscale Materials. The group is also active at external light sources including the LCLS and EuXFEL. The successful candidate will be encouraged to collaborate both internally and externally with other experimentalists and theoreticians to advance their research program. The applicant is expected to hold a Ph.D. with knowledge and expertise in chemistry or physics and is expected to possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
