Physics is the largest department in the L&S Division of Mathematical and Physical Sciences. It is ranked as one of the top physics departments in the world, with excellence in research, teaching, and service to the community all highly valued. The scientist will work on the LiteBIRD space mission being developed by JAXA. and will assist to develop cryogenic readout electronics, which includes a SQUID amplifier and superconducting LC resonators. The goal is to demonstrate the required noise level. Our research group develops instrumentation and experiments to observe the cosmic microwave background (CMB). The instrumentation includes detector arrays based on transition-edge sensors (TESs) and readout electronics based on frequency-domain multiplexing. The group is also active in experiments including Simons Array and Simons Observatory ground-based experiments and the LiteBIRD space mission. The successful candidate will play a leadership role in developing frequency-domain multiplexing for a space mission using LiteBIRD as a mission example to develop a space-qualified design. The design work will include achieving noise performance suitable for LiteBIRD while simultaneously staying within cryogenic power dissipation requirements. The design work will also include developing shielding to external electromagnetic interference. QualificationsBasic qualifications (required at time of application)
