We seek an innovative and productive scientist and leader to join the Rutgers School of Public Health as Associate Professor/Professor and Assistant or Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs.

The ideal candidate will provide strategic vision and intellectual leadership for the School while engaging synergies across the Rutgers Biomedical Health Sciences and provide visionary leadership in all faculty mentoring and research of SPH as it works to fulfill its mission and realize its strategic plan. The Associate Dean will lead a portfolio of institutional efforts to sustain a culture of excellence. Functional areas of primary responsibility include faculty affairs, including mentoring.

The successful candidate will work with the Office of the Chief of Staff and the Dean and all matters related to faculty recruitment and development: work directly with SPH Chairs, faculty and departments, on faculty mentoring; implement the rigorous, deliberate and well-defined mentoring program for junior faculty on both clinical and tenure tracks; oversee faculty affairs processes including annual performance evaluations, appointments/reappointments, and tenure and promotion processes; work with the Chief of Staff’s team on all faculty human resource matters; design and implement programs, services, and resources to support faculty career success; function as a mentor, ally, and primary point of contact to junior faculty; assist the Chairs and Dean on matters related to faculty recruitment; implement programming to enhance recruit faculty who are members of underrepresented groups in academia and enact strategies to ensure the success of these faculty members once recruited; work with the Dean and leadership team in fostering an environment with zero tolerance for harassment and discrimination; represent the School on faculty related University and RBHS committees; implement and grow all metrics related to SPH faculty productivity.

The position will have an academic appointment in or across any of the 4 Departments of the Rutgers School of Public Health – Biostatistics and Epidemiology; Health Behavior, Society an Policy; Environmental and Occupational Health; Urban-Global Public Health.

While we are open to candidates with a wide range of scholarly expertise, we are particularly interested in scholars who would most strongly complement the School’s areas of excellence, which include the following: cancer disparities; environmental and occupational health and justice; health reform and access to care; gun violence prevention; HIV/HPV/TB and other infectious diseases; LGBTQ health; modern statistical methods; substance use and mental health; tobacco control; gun violence prevention; public health nutrition; sexual and reproductive health.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
The successful candidate will have a degree in public health or in a related field of study.

We seek an individual with an established and sustained, extramurally funded research program informed by observational studies, clinical trials, implementation science, and through the application of innovative methodologies and approaches. Candidates should be motivated to understand and improve public health and population well- being through scholarship and community engagement. The successful candidate will also contribute actively to our teaching mission using modern pedagogical techniques, engage in creative curriculum development, and mentor MPH and doctoral students. An interest in collaborating in the development of training programs is also desirable. An attractive recruitment package will include a competitive salary and start-up funds.

The CEPH-accredited Rutgers School of Public Health offers multiple master and doctoral degrees, dual-degree, certificate, and articulated BA/BS-MPH degree programs.
