An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Associate Lecturer in Chemistry to join the team in the School of Physical Sciences at the University of Adelaide.

We are seeking an enthusiastic academic to assist the Level 1 Director of Teaching in Chemistry to coordinate four large first year chemistry courses (over 1000 students total), organise and deliver improved contextualised workshop and practical component for cohorts from general and specialist degrees, and extend the chemistry offerings (reprise courses and a 3-unit summer course). This teaching specialist position will be located at the North Terrace campus of the University of Adelaide.

The School of Physical Sciences in the Faculty of Sciences brings together the internationally acclaimed and contemporary disciplines of chemistry, earth science and physics, delivering undergraduate and postgraduate education, training, and research with both national relevance and global outreach and networks in the public and private sectors. The School is located on the University of Adelaide’s North Terrace Campus, at the heart of one of the most liveable cities in the world and close to fantastic beaches, sporting facilities, excellent schools and entertainment and shopping precincts. 

As a component of the School, the Department of Chemistry provides core teaching across a range of Faculty of Sciences programs but also into several programs in Health and Medical Sciences, Engineering, Computer and Mathematical Science and Arts. The first-year chemistry courses are also delivered to the University of Adelaide College Degree Transfer Pathway students.

To be successful you will need:

  • A PhD in Chemistry.
  • Demonstrated ability and commitment to teaching in chemical sciences via lectures, workshops, tutorials and practicals at the undergraduate level.
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake teaching-related administrative activities including assessment, marking, pastoral care and maintaining online learning platforms connected with courses.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under limited supervision to deliver excellent educational outcomes.
