The successful candidate will be required to carry out theoretical research on condensed matter physics, teach undergraduate and graduate courses including the first year physics, and perform administrative duties of the Department, School and the Institute.

Applicants must satisfy all of the following requirements:
(1)Hold a doctorate or an equivalent degree by the time the appointment begins
(2)Be able to teach classes and supervise students in English


Compensation

The Institute is currently planning to introduce a new annual salary system in response to new, relevant guidelines of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. Due to this transition to the new system, the salary will be determined as follows.
During the transition period
Monthly salary system based on the Regulations on Wage and Salary of the Institute.
After the introduction of new system
New annual salary system
Note: Applicants currently working at other national universities, etc. who have Shokei Staff status (承継職員) and receive an annual salary will be employed under the Institute's current annual salary system (Regulations on Wage and Salary for Staff under the Annual Salary System).

【Working hours】
De facto working hours* under the discretionary labor system:
7 hours 45 minutes per day (38 hours 45 minutes per week)

1) Curriculum vitae (since high-school graduation) including applicant's photograph, age, and gender.
2) Publication list classified into the following categories: i) refereed original papers (the five significant papers with attached copies must be marked with citation counts), ii) invited talks at conferences, iii) review or commentary articles, and iv) books.
3) Awards, prizes, acquired research grants and external funds (mark whether the principal researcher or not; names of the funds, project titles, amounts, periods of research, and total amounts of all the funds), and summary of professional society activities and social contributions.
4) Brief statement of research achievements (up to two A4 size pages) and teaching careers.
5) Brief statement of future research plan (up to two A4 size pages) and teaching plan, possible start date.
6) List of four references with affiliations and e-mail addresses (at least two outside of the country where the applicant now works/studies), including the authors of the letters of reference or recommendation (item 8).
7) PDF copies of five significant papers.

[Selection process]
Selection will be based on a comprehensive review of applications and interviews. Selected applicants may be asked to take part in an on-campus interview and/or give a presentation, a trial lecture, etc. Please note that travel expenses for attending interviews will not be reimbursed.
