The Department of Chemistry in the Faculty of Science, York University invites highly qualified candidates to apply for a professorial stream tenure-track appointment at the Associate or Full Professor level who will serve as Department Chair for an initial 5-year term, renewable upon mutual agreement, to commence July 1, 2022. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. All York University positions are subject to budgetary approval.

A PhD in Chemistry is required, with a demonstrated record of excellence in academic leadership, research, and teaching. Applicants should have a clearly articulated program of research that aligns with the new research priorities of the Department that span four https://sdgs.un.org/goals : Good Health and Well Being, Affordable Clean Energy, Responsible Energy and Consumption, and Climate Action.

The successful candidate will play a leading role in building a burgeoning Department in the midst of a substantial rejuvenation, with 12 new faculty hired in the past five years. To this end, they will promote research excellence around the four SDGs and foster academic excellence along https://www.yorku.ca/uap2020-25/ . Moreover, the successful candidate is expected to engage in outstanding, innovative, and externally funded research at an internationally competitive level. The position will involve graduate teaching and supervision, as well as undergraduate teaching and the successful candidate must be suitable for prompt appointment to the Faculty of Graduate Studies.

Candidates must provide evidence of outstanding leadership qualifications, administrative experience, as well as research excellence of an international calibre as demonstrated by the research statement, a record of publications (or forthcoming publications) with significant journals in the field, presentations at major conferences, awards and accolades, teaching excellence and pedagogical innovation, in particular in experiential education and technology enhanced learning, and strong recommendations from referees of high standing.

The Department of Chemistry is a tight-knit community with over 20 research groups composed of approximately 85 graduate students and postdoctoral researchers. Six additional faculty members in the teaching stream provide a state-of-the-art learning environment to our undergraduate student population currently comprising around 340 Chemistry and 150 Biochemistry majors.
