Chair in Economic Geology

The Faculty of Science at the University of Ottawa invites applications for an industry-supported Chair in Economic Geology, a permanent tenure-track position with expertise in mineralogy, petrology or allied field.

Title of the position: Academic rank will be assessed commensurate with experience.

Duties: The responsibilities include: 1)supervision of graduate students, teaching an undergraduate course in mineralogy, and teaching graduate courses in their field of research; 2) securing external funding for a high quality research program in the fields of mineral exploration, mineral deposit geology, or the geodynamic setting of ore deposits; and 3) performing an active role within the department by contributing to administrative and academic activities of the department and faculty The anticipated start date of the position is July 1, 2020.

Terms: Tenure-track position.

Wage: Salary scales for Assistant Professor is starting at $86,986 (as of May, 2020).

Skills requirements:

  • Education: Ph.D.  
  • Work experience: additional research experience is desirable, such as a post-doctoral or industry-related position.

Other information:

Analytical laboratories on campus include X-ray (SCXRD, PXRD, XRF), microbeam (SEM, TEM, EMPA), and geochemical (LA-ICP-MS, ICP-ES, ICP-OES) facilities, Canada’s National Accelerating Mass Spectrometer Laboratory, and noble gas and stable isotope instrumentation. The candidate must be able to teach in both French and English, the two official languages of the university
