The Department of Applied Physics at the NYU Tandon School of Engineering invites applications for a full time, non-tenured, renewable senior-level faculty position, who will serve as Department Chair, with a start date as early as June 2020, but no later than Sept. 2020.

Our students conduct Vertically Integrated Research projects and participate in an extensive undergraduate summer research program.


The Applied Physics Department offers BS degrees in Applied Physics, and in Physics and Mathematics, and an MS degree in Applied Physics. The department also offers introductory physics courses to all Engineering majors. As a Department Chair, you will be responsible for the operation of the department and for shepherding the departmental faculty, degree programs and course offerings.  You will direct the recruitment, mentoring, performance review, and reappointment of faculty. You will oversee course offerings and scheduling and student advising. The new Department Chair is expected to lead a curriculum review and possible overhaul of the physics course offerings for engineering students. You will also have teaching responsibilities, but with a reduced teaching load.  


You should have a Ph.D. in Physics, Applied Physics, or a closely related discipline and a record of ten or more years of experience as a full-time faculty at North American colleges or universities. You should have experience teaching large, multi-section physics theory and laboratory courses. You should be an excellent teacher.
