At the University of Göttingen -Public Law Foundation-, I.Physikalisches Institut - Tieftemperaturphysik, there is a position as

to be filled. Starting date is as soon as possible. The position is limited to 3 years.

Employment will be with 75% of regular working hours (currently 29,85 hours per week). The position is intended to support further scientific qualification. Accordingly, the pursuit of a doctoral research project is explicitly desired. The regulations of the Georg-August University School of Science (GAUSS) apply to the doctoral degree.

AG Mathias scientific focus is on ultrafast processes in condensed matter, with particular emphasis on the investigation of material systems driven into non-equilibrium states. The doctoral candidate is expected to work in the field of light–matter interaction, with a special focus on ultrafast electron and exciton dynamics in 2D materials, 2D organic heterostructures and/or correlated materials. The successful candidate will also be responsible for the operation and further development of the ultrafast pump–probe microscopy setup. Current research topics include ultrafast electron and exciton dynamics in quantum materials, as well as the targeted control of electronic properties using strong light fields.

Your profile

• You have a Master’s degree in Physics or a closely related field.
• You have very good English skills, both spoken and written, good German skills are advantageous.
• Practical experience in at least one of the following areas is strongly advantageous: operation and maintenance of ultra-high-vacuum (UHV) systems, or handling ultrashort-pulse laser systems and related optical setups.
• Ideally, you also have experience with high-harmonic generation, pump–probe microscopy, and advanced knowledge in electron dynamics and surface physics.
• Experience in numerical data analysis using, for example, Python is advantageous.
