Early stage researcher, Computational imaging - Electron Tomography

Project title: Early stage research position (ESR) in computational imaging: Electron Tomography (f/m)

Description

The Vision Lab, a solid research group at the University of Antwerp, has an open position for an Early Stage Researcher to work on developing innovative image reconstruction methods for Electron Tomography. Tomography is an image reconstruction technique that leans strongly on large-scale numerical mathematics, particularly linear algebra.

Qualifications

  • You hold a M.Sc. degree in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or Engineering.

  • You love interdisciplinary science in an international context, and want nothing more than advancing the field of Electron Tomography with your skills, creativity and novel solutions.

  • You have a good sense of humour and enjoy programming to put your findings into practice.

  • You also want to tell the world about your findings with sparkling presentations.

Eligibility

  • Early-stage researchers (ESR) are those who are, at the time of recruitment by the host, in the first four years (full-time equivalent) of their research careers. This is measured from the date when they obtained the degree which formally entitles them to embark on a doctorate, either in the country in which the degree was obtained or in the country in which the research training is provided, irrespective of whether or not a doctorate was envisaged.

  • Researchers are required to undertake transnational mobility (i.e. move from one country to another) when taking up the appointment. At the time of selection by the host organisation, researchers must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country of their host organisation for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to their recruitment.

Labs involved

The Vision Lab has unique expertise in the development of algorithms for reconstruction, processing and analysis of imaging data. Application domains are X-ray CT, MRI and Electron Microscopy. The working environment is strongly interdisciplinary, combining techniques and insights from Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science and Engineering. The group has a broad range of national and international collaborations with both academic and industrial partners. Recent Vision Lab publications on tomography can be found on http://visielab.uantwerpen.be/research/tomography .

Our offer

  • Multidisciplinary research: cooperation with strong academic research labs and industrial partners participating in a EU ITN project.

  • A world-class international research environment with state-of-the-art hardware.

  • The MSCA program (Marie Skłodowska-Curie action) offers highly competitive and attractive salary and working conditions.

Starting date: As soon as possible

How to apply?

Interested candidates are invited to send a motivation letter, a detailed CV (including followed courses, honours, grades, previous work, programming skills, publications, …) and contact info of two references to Christine Waerebeek (christine.waerebeek@uantwerpen.be) with Prof. Dr. Jan Sijbers, (Jan.Sijbers@uantwerpen.be) in cc and with subject ‘ITN_MUMMERING’.

Applications can be submitted until the closing date (October 15th, 2019) and will be evaluated on a running basis.

The University of Antwerp is a family friendly organization, with a focus on equal opportunities and diversity. Our HR-policy for researchers was awarded by the European Commission with the quality label HR Excellence in research.

We support the Science4Refugees initiative and encourage asylum-seeking, refugee scientists and researchers to apply for a job at the University of Antwerp.
