Two 1-Year Limited Term Positions in Chemistry

Located in downtown Toronto, the largest and most culturally diverse city in Canada and on the  territory of the Anishinaabeg, Haudenosaunee and the Wendat Peoples, the Department of Chemistry and Biology in the Faculty of Science at , invites applications for two 1-year Limited Term Faculty (LTF) position in Chemistry at the rank of Assistant Professor effective August 1, 2021. We welcome applications from those who would contribute to the further diversification of, our faculty and its scholarship including, but not limited to, First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples, Indigenous peoples of North America, Black-identified persons, other racialized persons, persons with disabilities, and those who identify as women and/or 2SLGBTQ+

Please note that Limited Term Faculty appointments at Ryerson University may not exceed a combined total of four years. Applicants with prior Ryerson LTF appointments need to consider this limitation, as it may render them ineligible to apply. 

The successful candidate(s) will engage in a combination of only the teaching and service duties of faculty members in the Department, maintaining an inclusive, equitable, and collegial work environment across all activities. Responsibilities will include teaching and course management obligations for a range of courses as listed below:

Position #1 (General Chemistry and Organic Chemistry):

Introductory courses in General Chemistry, as well as introductory courses in Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry.

Position #2 (General Chemistry and Environmental Chemistry OR Inorganic Chemistry):

Introductory courses in General Chemistry as well as advanced courses in either (i) Environmental Chemistry OR (ii) Inorganic Chemistry.

Candidates must hold a completed PhD in the relevant area of Chemistry. In addition, the successful candidate must: 

  • present evidence of, or potential for, excellence in teaching that outlines scientific teaching philosophy, teaching accomplishments (from a variety of perspectives including community and academic), and pedagogical practices; 
  • present a commitment to our values of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion as it pertains to service, teaching, and scholarly research or creative activities, including a dedication to making learning accessible and inclusive for a diverse student population; and
  • demonstrate an ability to contribute to the life of the Department and the University through collegial service. 

Commensurate experience in the area of chemical and/or biological education or pedagogy would be considered an asset.

  • a curriculum vitae; 
  • a dossier of teaching experience which should also include a teaching statement/philosophy – 5 pages max; 
  • a statement on equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) – 2 pages max; and
  • the names of three references – no letters are required at this time.
