Position Summary

The Department of Radiology at the Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for an Instructor position within the Academic Support Staff.

  • Appointment Duration: Initially 1 year; continuation and renewal up to 3 years contingent on performance and funding.

  • Field of Expertise: Bioengineering or related fields with a focus on PET imaging technologies.

  • Required Degree: Ph.D.


Required Expertise

Candidates should have experience with:

  1. Nuclear medicine imaging, particularly PET-CT instruments.

  2. Kinetic modeling methods for applications in brain and body imaging.

  3. Image processing and analysis tools (e.g., PMOD, MIM).

  4. Software modeling tools (e.g., PMOD, MATLAB).

  5. Data acquisition, correction, and image reconstruction methods in PET.


Responsibilities

  • Develop an independent research program in quantitative image analysis, primarily focused on PET imaging, and potentially including other modalities such as Spectral CT.

  • Collaborate with a team of investigators performing quantitative imaging for clinical and research applications.

  • Develop and evaluate methods to improve acquisition and data modeling approaches for diverse research studies and radiotracers.

  • Perform studies using conventional and novel PET systems, often with dynamic imaging protocols requiring kinetic modeling of 4D image data.

  • Oversee the Quantitative Imaging Analysis Laboratory for PET analysis.

  • Train new investigators in image analysis tools.

  • Gain research experience in imaging or image-guided therapy and develop independent research suitable for grant funding.

  • Receive mentorship in grant writing and proposal development to transition toward lead independent researcher roles.


Goal of the Position

To advance the development of quantitative PET image analysis methods, improve research imaging quality, enable novel applications, increase clinical adoption, and broaden the scientific user base for quantitative PET metrics.
