In addition to research in geology, geophysics and geography, research in seismology and official duties in the field of seismology are carried out at the department. in the mineralogical laboratories (Hellabs) of the Department of Geosciences and Geography.

For the current analytical setup of the Department, the mineralogical division of Hellabs will recruit a full-time chief laboratory engineer to handle, organize and develop analytical techniques in the field of mineralogy, petrology and analytical geochemistry. The duties will focus on installation, operation, maintenance, organization, handling and development of new techniques in our X-ray facilities (X-ray fluorescence, X-ray diffraction, Scanning electron microscope and Electron microprobe). We expect the successful candidate to have a strong background in material sciences, physics, chemistry or mineralogy. Experience in development of X-ray techniques and instrument maintenance/installation is desirable.

To be successful in the position, the applicant is expected to have excellent communication skills. The appointee will have a standard teaching load of 5% of fiscal time, focused on application of the X-ray facilities in the curricula of graduate and postgraduate degree programs in geosciences.
