This position is being filled as part of UCC Futures - Future Pharmaceuticals.

UCC wishes to appoint an academic with a demonstrable record of excellence and with significant potential to the role of Lecturer in Green Chemistry OR Radical Pharma, within the School of Chemistry https://www.ucc.ie/en/chemistry/, the ABCRF https://www.ucc.ie/en/abcrf/ and the Environmental Research Institute (https://www.ucc.ie/en/eri/). Reporting to the Head of Chemistry, the successful candidate will contribute to the teaching activities in Organic and Pharmaceutical Chemistry, and related areas, as well as the research strategy of the School, the ABCRF and the ERI. The successful candidate will be expected to fit directly into the ‘organic and pharmaceutical chemistry’ research pillar within the School of Chemistry and develop research programmes in this area. The successful candidate will also be expected to interact with researchers working in the SSPC Centre (https://sspc.ie/), a Science Foundation Ireland funded partnership between leading researchers in the solid state and pharmaceutical chemistry areas and industry.

Applicants interested in applying for the position should have a PhD in Organic or Green Chemistry and demonstrate a proven commitment to leadership and excellence in research and teaching as evidenced by a scholarly reputation of international standing.

The School of Chemistry (https://www.ucc.ie/en/chemistry/) within the College of Science, Engineering and Food Science (SEFS) comprises the academic disciplines of analytical, inorganic, organic, pharmaceutical and physical chemistry. The School offers three undergraduate programmes, as well as taught postgraduate diploma and MSc programmes in analytical chemistry. The School holds an Athena SWAN Bronze Award and is proactively committed to equality and diversity in the workplace.

The Analytical & Biological Chemistry Research Facility (ABCRF) is a state of the art interdisciplinary research centre housed in the Pharmacy Building, University College Cork. The ABCRF houses several state of the art Bruker NMR spectrometers (including a 600 MHz instrument). Electrospray Ionisation mass spectrometers from Waters/Micromass are available in at the ABCRF, including an LCT Premier Time of Flight and a Quattro triple quadrupole instrument. Both instruments are configured for high throughput liquid chromatography mass spectrometry (LCMS).

The Environmental Research Institute is UCC’s flagship institute facilitating a transformation to a zero carbon, resource efficient, and sustainable society. The Institute brings together over 400 researchers from 20 University Schools and Departments and 6 Research Centres to address the global sustainability challenges of Climate Action, Circular Economy & Healthy Environment in a trans-disciplinary approach. The ERI is a leader in sustainability and environmental research, facilitating multi-disciplinary based research solutions to global challenges. The Institute focuses its research on three societal challenges - Climate Action, maintaining a Healthy Environment and transitioning to a Circular Economy.

Appointment may be made on the Lecturer Salary Scale: €72,602 - €81,217 (Scale B, Above the Bar) / €37,912 - €66,429 (Scale B, Below the Bar)

Salary placement on appointment will be in accordance with public sector pay policy.
