 Department of Geography, Faculty of Environment, at Simon Fraser University invites applications for a 1.0 FTE Term Teaching Faculty position at the rank of Lecturer in the area of urban studies.

While this position is housed in the Urban Studies Program, the candidate will be required to teach two courses per year in the Department of Geography. This position is for two years starting Sept 1, 2019, with the possibility of a one-year extension.




This lecturer will be expected to teach graduate and undergraduate courses in a range of urban studies and urban geography topic areas. Graduate courses to be taught include Global Cities and Great Urban Thinkers, among others. Undergraduate courses to be taught should include two of: Urban Planning and Policy, Geography of Transportation, City and Environment, and Cities, Transportation, Infrastructure. Working with colleagues and with professional staff at SFU, this lecturer will also be expected to develop and run a series of enrichment and professional development activities targeted to graduate students in Urban Studies, including visiting speaker series, career development initiatives, field trips, a podcast series, and other possible engagement work. As a member of the SFU Faculty Association (SFUFA), the lecturer will also be expected to participate in the life of both units.




Qualifications: A Ph.D. or late stage ABD in an urban-related discipline by the appointment start date. We seek a candidate who has a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching, ideally at both graduate and undergraduate levels.
