Job description

The Nuclear Faculty, Defence Academy, provides education and training to Service and Civilian personnel in support of the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Programme and bespoke courses for the wider nuclear industry.

 

The courses range from introductory to postgraduate level.

 

We also undertake experimental research in support of the programme along with simulation and modelling. The simulation and modelling capacity is supported by our dedicated 155 TFLOP/s HPC facility.

 

We are looking for someone with a strong background and interest in nuclear reactors/criticality and/or radiation physics to join our multidisciplinary team. The team consists of experts in reactor physics, thermal hydraulics, radiation protection, atmospheric dispersion, accident studies, materials science and reactor chemistry. It is anticipated that any research that you undertake that is not security classified will be suitable for publication in peer-reviewed journals or at conferences.

 

 

You will be expected to:

 

Lecture in nuclear reactor physics, radiation physics, nuclear physics, criticality and associated topics.

Provide academic support including assessment and project supervision in these topics

Undertake research and consultancy work in support of the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Programme.

 

Good communication skills are essential.

Person specification

We are particularly seeking candidates who have recently completed PhD or post-doctoral research in reactor physics, criticality or radiation science. However, we would also consider applications who can demonstrate an equivalent level of experience.

Qualifications

Applicants will have a Honours degree in a relevant discipline and have a Post Graduate qualification in a relevant subject. It is desirable but not essential that you have a formal teaching qualification.

 

If not in possession of a teaching qualification the selected applicant must agree to undertake a course of study to be completed within 2 academic years of taking up the post.

Allowances

NSQEP RRA: An additional Recruitment and Retention Allowance of £12,000 per annum is payable following successful completion of specified training and gaining of experience.
