Job summary

The Department of Chemistry at Imperial College London is at an exciting time in its history. Already a world-leading Department, from mid-2018 we now occupy state-of-the art research facilities at Imperial’s new White City Campus following our move to the £170M Molecular Sciences Research Hub. This state-of-the-art facility allows for significant expansion of our research activities, bringing together work in Molecular Sciences across the College, and with external partners, to tackle global grand challenges.

As part of this expansion, applications are invited for six Lecturer/Senior Lecturer posts in Chemistry, commencing on 1 September 2021. Applications are welcomed from forward thinking and innovative individuals in any area of Chemistry.

Duties and responsibilities

    • To develop a broad range of research within the department.
    • To direct, lead, or contribute to, a research area at the highest scientifically rigorous levels.
    • To teach and examine courses at all levels – undergraduate, masters and higher research degrees – through lectures, seminars, tutorials, course work and personal supervision.
    • To act as a coach and role model through excellent practice and mentoring of colleagues.
    • To supervise PhD candidates.
    • To provide pastoral support for students.
    • To contribute to curriculum development.
    • To take a leading role in, or contribute to, the development of teaching and teaching methods and assessment.

Essential requirements

  • A PhD (or equivalent) in Chemistry or a closely related discipline.
  • An excellent record of research achievement.
  • Evidence of being able to establish an innovative and coherent research programme.
  • Evidence of the potential to plan, lead and direct research activity of outstanding quality.
  • Ability to demonstrate a portfolio of research publication commensurate with career stage.
  • Evidence of contribution to the promotion of equality, diversity and inclusivity in Chemistry.
  • Experience of teaching chemistry at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

For appointment at Senior Lecturer level, in addition to the above, candidates must have:

  • An exceptionally strong research record
  • A demonstrable track record of securing external research funding which may include having secured an independent fellowship.
  • Substantial experience in undergraduate teaching and postgraduate training, including successful PhD student supervision.
  • Extensive evidence of contribution to the promotion of equality, diversity and inclusivity in Chemistry.
