Network Seismologist at Bedretto Underground Laboratory80%-100%, Zurich, fixed-termThe Bedretto Underground Laboratory for Geosciences and Geoenergies (BedrettoLab) at ETH Zurich is at the forefront of experimental geosciences, conducting cutting-edge research in earthquake physics, seismic instrumentation, and geothermal energy. A dense, multi-scale seismic network consisting of standard seismological instruments, borehole piezoelectric acoustic emission sensors and DAS, acquired at sampling rates ranging from 1,000 to 200,000 samples per second, is capable of observing magnitude negative five induced earthquakes at distances from meters to 100’s of meters. All data is acquired and processed using SeisComP. Project backgroundWe are seeking a talented scientist with strong interest in network seismology and software development to enhance our seismological data processing and earthquake catalogue. This role involves real-time and post-processing of waveform data with a focus on improving earthquake quantification across the wide range of earthquake magnitude. The successful candidate will both leverage existing and develop new operational and research softwares. This position offers a unique opportunity to work in a multidisciplinary and international research environment, contributing to fundamental challenges in seismology, geophysics, and energy applications. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in real-time earthquake detection and quantification. Job description
