PhD fellow in Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics

The Center for Quantum Devices at the Niels Bohr Institute, Faculty of Science at University of Copenhagen is offering one or more PhD scholarship(s) in Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics with flexible starting date beginning as early as 1 June 2020.

Description of the scientific environment
The Center for Quantum Devices is a center of excellence at the Niels Bohr Institute. The center focuses on theoretical and experimental research on how to create, control, measure, and protect quantum coherence and entanglement in solid-state electronic. The center has strong connections to other research groups at the Niels Bohr Institute, including the Niels Bohr International Academy and also with Microsoft Quantum – Copenhagen laboratory. The successful candidate will become part of the Condensed Matter Theory Group and will have the opportunity to interact and collaborate with other members of the group which currently has six professors.

Project description
The theme of the PhD project will be quantum dynamics in many-body systems. Potential topics include (nonlinear) collective dynamics and novel nonequilibrium phases in driven systems, collective phenomena in hybrid materials, electron hydrodynamics, development of numerical methods including applications of machine learning to problems in quantum dynamics. The precise choice of topic and nature of the work (abstract vs. applied, analytical vs. numerical) will be shaped together with the PhD Fellow.
