In the Junior Research Group led by Dr. Dmitry Momotenko at the Chemistry Department at the University of Oldenburg within the framework of the ERC Grant Nanoscale 3D Printing of a Lithium Ion Battery: Rethinking the Fabrication Concept for a Revolution in Energy Storage a PhD student position (m/f/d) (salary level E-13 TV-L, 67 %) to be filled for 3 years from September 1st, 2022 is open. We are looking for highly motivated individuals that will add to our team their competence in developing new technology, microfabrication, and materials characterization. Our goal is to make a breakthrough in major battery characteristics (charging time and power) by a paradigm shift in battery engineering: we plan to develop and employ advanced nanoscale 3D printing techniques to fabricate active battery materials with ultrasmall structural features, which will provide a hundred-to-thousand-fold increase in the surface area of the battery enabled by nanoscale spacing between electrodes without compromising the battery capacity. To reach this, high-aspect ratio features should be additively manufactured to form active materials of the cathode and the anode. We are thus looking for PhD students with interest in micro/nanotechnology, development of new instrumentation and/or with previous experience in materials synthesis and characterization techniques, especially suitable for micro- and nanoscale systems.
