PhD Position in Environmental Chemistry (m/w/d; TV-L E13, 65%, 3 years)

Faculty of Science, Center for Applied Geoscience (ZAG)

Application deadline : 15.04.2021

We are looking for a

PhD student (m/w/d; TV-L E13, 65%, 3 years)

to study the environmental fate of polyphosphonates, an emerging group of environmental contaminants. As concentrations of these chelating agents are increasing in German rivers, we seek to get a comprehensive understanding of their environmental fate and to develop strategies reducing their overall load in receiving surface waters. To this end, cutting-edge analytical techniques will be applied in laboratory studies including liquid chromatography/isotope ratio mass spectrometry (LC/IRMS), liquid chromatography/tandem mass spectrometry (LC/MS/MS) and various mineral characterization techniques.

The PhD candidate will work within an excellent research environment on a highly topical issue as member of an interdisciplinary research team.  We encourage applications of students from chemistry, environmental sciences, geoecology or related programs.

Requirements:

  • Strong background/interest in Environmental Chemistry and interdisciplinary research
  • Interest in application, maintenance and development of high-end analytical techniques
  • Excellent communication skills including command of English and German language
  • Ability to work independently and in teams

Start date will be mid 2021. Employment (TVL E13, 65%, 3 years) will be arranged by the University of Tübingen. The university seeks to raise the number of women in research and teaching and therefore urges qualified women to apply. Disabled persons will be preferred in case of equal qualification.

For more information, please contact Stefan Haderlein (haderleinspam prevention@uni-tuebingen.de) or Daniel Buchner (daniel.buchnerspam prevention@uni-tuebingen.de). Please send your application (one pdf document including CV, motivation letter and overview of previous work and experience with analytical techniques) by email before April 15th, 2021 to: Prof. Dr. Stefan Haderlein, Environmental Mineralogy & Chemistry, Center for Applied Geoscience, University of Tübingen, Germany. https://uni-tuebingen.de/de/84411
