At the Institute of Physical Chemistry of the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen, the position of a

research assistant (doctoral student) (w / m / d) is (as of 01.01.2020 )

half of the regular weekly working hours of a full-time employee Employee (currently 19.90 hours / week) for a period of 3 years. The pay is based on the fee group 13 TV-L .

The position should serve the qualification of young scientists and offers the opportunity for doctoral studies.

The tasksto be fulfilled in the doctoral thesis include the development, implementation and application of novel machine learning potentials, especially with the help of artificial neural networks. The construction and validation of these potentials requires the implementation of extensive electronic structure calculations. The obtained potentials should then be tested and validated on suitable model systems for their accuracy. High-performance computers of the working group are available for carrying out the work.

WantedPersons with a recent or soon to be successfully completed Master's degree (M. Sc.) In preferably Chemistry or alternatively in Physics (or equivalent to Chemistry) and with an interest in Theoretical Chemistry. Desired are a very good education in theoretical chemistry, familiarity with quantum chemical calculations and practical experience with Linux or Unix systems. Very good knowledge of German and English as well as the willingness to cooperate with other working groups and beyond that with research partners in Germany and abroad are also expected.
