The appointment will be on UCL Grade 6. The salary range will be £28,574 - £33,487 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.

 

The UCL Observatory at Mill Hill in North London is advertising a position for a UCL Observatory Support Technician. The UCL Observatory is a teaching facility associated with the UCL Department of Physics and Astronomy. Teaching, public outreach and research activities are carried out and require a broad range of expertise in the area of telescope technology, electronics, mechanical and electrical engineering. The main duties of the role, which supports all activities include aiding with technical, mechanical and electrical work as well as supporting the educational activities.

 

The candidates will have an overall ability to work within a light engineering environment and have a good knowledge of H&S and COSHH regulations. Knowledge of astronomical equipment is desirable as well as practical knowledge in the dismantling and repair or modification of electrical systems as well as basic electronics, wiring and soldering skills. The candidate will also be computer literate and possess good communication skills, verbal and written, have a good disposition in interacting with the public for outreach events.
