The department of Chemistry and Biochemistry and the department of Chemical Engineering invite applications for a full time postdoc scholar employee with an anticipated start date of April 1, 2021 in the Han Research Group. The initial appointment should be for one year with potential for renewal for up to three years.

The department is seeking a researcher to develop and perform solid state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP) experiments, with particular emphasis on biosolids applications. The researcher will have access to DNP-NMR instrumentation at 7, 9.4 T and 14 Tesla, including dual DNP and Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR) capabilities at 7 Tesla, magic angle spinning (MAS) capabilities at 9.4 and 14 Tesla, and access to ultra-low temperatures (ULT) at 7 and 14 Tesla. The researcher is required to perform hands-on experimental and instrumentation work, including the design of new components and/or parts, and the integration of DNP technology and methods to broaden the scope of biosolids and materials characterization by NMR spectroscopy. Access to state-of-the-art problems in structural biology and materials research is gained through many ongoing collaborations of the Han lab. The expectation is for the candidate to be a partner to the PI to manage and guide the collaborative work involving several faculty and students, and be open-minded for new ideas and projects.

Basic Qualifications:
Applicants should possess a Ph.D. in chemistry, biochemistry, chemical physics or related fields. Must have degree in hand by time of application.

Additional Qualifications:
Experience in solid-state Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Spectroscopy for approximately 2 or more years during Ph.D. studies or earlier.

Preferred Qualifications:
While prior knowledge and skills in instrumentation and solid-state DNP is an added benefit, a general proficiency in solid-state magnetic resonance experiments and concepts as well as willingness to perform or learn instrumentation and hardware work will be valued most.

UCSB is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, teaching and service as appropriate to the position.
Applications should be submitted electronically and must include:

  1. Cover letter (1 page)
  2. Curriculum Vitae including publications
  3. Names and contact information of references (2 required, additional 1 optional)
  4. Research Statement (1 -2 pages only)

Applications completed by February 15, 2021 will be given priority. To apply, please visit .
