Post-doctoral Fellowship in Protein Biochemistry
University of São Paulo Institute of Chemistry

Post-doctoral applications are open under the scope of a Thematic Project investigating the relationship between structure and function of specific molecular chaperones with emphasis in protein-protein and protein-ligand interactions. The goal is to build models to explain the mechanism by which molecular chaperones interact with unfolded substrates and transfer them to specified molecular machines. Our group seeks also to identify potential targets for therapeutic intervention.

The selected candidate will work in the subproject entitled “Functional cellular study of the high molecular mass oligomers of the mortalin and the effects of mitochondrial cochaperones in their structure” for a period of one to four years, depending on performance. His/her participation will be funded by scholarship granted by the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP). Activities are expected to start in November 2019 and will be carried out at the São Carlos Chemistry Institute of the University of São Paulo (IQSC-USP), in São Carlos, Brazil.

The successful candidate will have a relevant Post-doc in Biochemistry or correlated areas concluded less than seven years before the beginning of the PD fellowship. Experience in the techniques involved, including molecular and cellular biology, protein purification, molecular biophysics, structural biology and protein-protein interaction, is also mandatory.

Evidence of practical work experience in cell fluorescence microscopy, NMR, electronic microscopy and/or SAXS would be an advantage.

The fellowship demands full time dedication to the research project. The fellowship holder may not hold any formal or informal employment nor receive, during the term of the fellowship (please check FAPESP rules for granting of post-doctoral fellowships:

A letter of interest, CV and name of three references should be sent to project supervisor Julio C. Borges ( at

FAPESP fellowship (monthly stipend of R$ 7.373,10); expenditure on transport; aid installation; and research contingency funds, equivalent to 15% of the annual value of the fellowship which should be spent in items directly related to the research activity.
