Post-Doctoral Researcher in Economic Geography

The Economic Geography Group at the Institute of Geography, Heidelberg University, is offering a Post-Doc researcher position for three years as part of an international research team funded by Agence Nationale de Recherche (ANR) and Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) in the context of a French-German binational grant:

POST-DOCTORAL RESEARCHER – 75% (M/F/D)

36 months fixed-term employment; starting 01 Sep 2020. An upgrade to 100% is possible under certain conditions. Payment will be according to German TV-L 13. A kindergarten service is available.

Research Project UNIFIED. The employment is in the ANR-DFG-funded research project UNIFIED (From local diversity to transnational institutionalization: The emergence of the European Unified Patent Court). UNIFIED focuses on the current process of institutional convergence between nationally fragmented IP regimes and the emergence of a new kind of transnational institution: the Unified Patent Court. The project aims to pioneer a neo-structural theory of institutionalization that integrates institutional and network approaches to account for the relational mechanisms that harmonize and enforce judicial beliefs, interpretations and practices. As part of a mixed-methods research design, the research team will conduct extensive interviews with patent judges in France and Germany, and it will carry out a set of formal network surveys at professional events in Europe. UNIFIED is looking at whether a common legal institution still provides incentives for innovation and the conditions under which this common legal institution could help France and Germany jointly boost the strength of their respective national innovation systems.
