Postdoctoral Fellow in Chemistry
Masaryk University
Czech Republic

About this position:

We're excited to announce an open post-doctoral position in Radek Marek's Research Group!

Do you have a passion for understanding the electronic structure of molecules and materials and their spectra? Join our team! We focus on the relationship between molecular/electronic structure and spectroscopic parameters, especially those in magnetic resonance (EPR/NMR). The aim of the project is to deepen our general understanding of relativistic effects (in particular spin-orbit coupling) on electronic structure and NMR (EPR) properties of closed and open-shell systems (see below for our selected reviews) with applications in materials and biomedical research. If you are interested in applied quantum chemistry with a focus on heavy element compounds, this is an ideal opportunity for you.

The Marek lab has access to state-of-the-art computational tools (including national supercomputer centers) and cutting-edge NMR instruments (CEITEC core facility). Our lab has secured third-party funding, so we are well equipped to support your research.

We are seeking a creative, independent, and motivated colleague with demonstrable expertise related to this position. Candidates, particularly from EU Member States, with solid research experience in computational quantum chemistry (DFT) or theoretical spectroscopy are encouraged to apply.

Two selected review papers:

J. Vicha et al. Chem. Rev. 2020, 120, 7065, doi: 10.1021/acs.chemrev.9b00785

J. Novotny et al. Acc. Chem. Res. 2024, 57, 1467, doi: 10.1021/acs.accounts.3c00786

The ideal candidate profile:

  • Motivated person with a collaborative mindset
  • Independence, enthusiasm, persistence, and attention to detail
  • A PhD degree or equivalent in theoretical, physical, computational chemistry, chemical physics or a similar field received within the last 5 years (maternity/parental leave is excluded from this period)
  • Demonstrated proficiency in quantum chemistry, density functional theory, spectroscopy
  • An outstanding publication record in peer-reviewed journals
  • Interpersonal skills required to supervise junior members of the research group
  • Fluency in English (spoken and written)

We provide:

  • Open access to CEITEC MU core facilities and national computational resources
  • Full-time fixed-term contract for one year, with the possibility of extension
  • An attractive salary condition (Czech Science Foundation project)
  • Flexible working hours and remote work
  • Support for further education and professional development
  • Benefits package: 6 weeks of paid holiday, medical insurance, financial contribution to kindergarten/pension scheme, meal and sports/culture/leisure time, sports lessons directly at the campus
  • Kindergarten Elánek in Campus
  • Support in these areas:
