Project Description

The research group of Professor Egor Babaev at the Department of Physics, KTH, invites applications for a Doctoral student in theoretical condensed matter physics.

The group investigates a broad range of topics using analytical and numerical methods, including:

  • Effective field theory

  • Topological solitons

  • Statistical mechanics of phase transitions

  • Topological systems

  • Quantum many-body techniques

Current research includes:

  • Emerging field of composite order, including electron quadrupling condensates and fractional magnetic flux quantum defects

  • New quantum symmetry-breaking and topologically ordered states

  • Unconventional phase transitions

  • Applications of advanced methods like Diagrammatic Monte-Carlo

Collaboration with local and international theoretical and experimental groups is encouraged.

  • Co-supervisor: Pär Olsson


Admission Requirements

Applicants must have:

  • Completed a second-cycle degree (Master’s) or equivalent qualifications (240 higher education credits, including 60 second-cycle credits)

  • English proficiency equivalent to English B/6

Employment Information

  • Employment is contingent on admission to postgraduate education

  • Maximum duration corresponds to four years of full-time doctoral study

  • Up to 20% of the role may include teaching or administrative tasks

  • Employment contracts are renewed annually, up to a maximum of two years at a time
