The Departments of Physics and Chemistry in the Faculty of Sciences are looking for a full-time doctoral scholarship holder in the field of optical readout of molecular spin qubits.


Position

  • You will work actively on the preparation and defence of a PhD thesis in the field of Physics or Chemistry.

  • Within this project you will use a technique called optically detected magnetic resonance to read out molecular spin qubits. You will be in charge of sample preparation and spectroscopic characterization (absorption, emission spectroscopy) and optically detected magnetic resonace. You will also investigate spin coherence times in these qubits by pulsed electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy. You will be embedded in a multidisciplinary research group, under the supervision of Prof. S. Cambré and Prof. S. Van Doorslaer (both TSM2 research group).

  • You will publish scientific articles related to the research project.

  • You will carry out a limited number of teaching and research support tasks for our departments (supervision of practica).


Profile

  • You hold a Master degree in Physics, Chemistry or Materials science or a closely related field.

  • You are a motivated person, willing to show commitment for a doctoral project.

  • You can demonstrate excellent study results.

  • Your teaching competences are in line with the University of Antwerp’s educational vision.

  • Your research qualities are in line with the faculty and university research policies.

  • You act with attention to quality, integrity, creativity and cooperation.

  • A background in optical and/or electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy is a plus.


What We Offer

  • We offer a doctoral scholarship for a period of one year. Together with your promotors, you will apply for additional follow-up research funding.

  • The planned start date is 1st of March 2026 or as soon as possible after that date.

  • Your monthly scholarship amount is calculated according to the scholarship amounts for doctoral scholarship holders.

  • You will receive ecocheques, Internet-connectivity allowance and a bicycle allowance or a full reimbursement of public transport costs for commuting.

  • You will do most of your work at Campus Drie Eiken, building N in a dynamic and stimulating working environment.
