Post-doctoral position in Supramolecular Radiochemistry
80 %

The University of Zurich (UZH) is seeking applications from candidates for a Post-doctoral in Supramolecular Radiochemistry in the group of Prof. Dr Jason P. Holland in the Department of Chemistry.

Project Background
Our research lies at the interface of chemistry, biochemistry, and translational molecular medicine. We develop new ways to make radioactive molecules using radiometal ions for applications in imaging and radiotherapy. Specifically, the science will build on our recent work using non-covalent chemistry to create functional radiotracers (for relevant studies see: Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. and Chem. Sci.). Our research is funded by the European Research Council and the UZH.

Your responsibilities

Successful candidates will conduct chemical synthesis, radiochemistry (with 68Ga, 89Zr, 64Cu, 18F, 99mTc, 111In, 177Lu, 188Re, etc), spectroscopy, computational work, and biological studies in vitro and in vivoto develop new cancer specific probes. The work involves handling human cells, radioactive materials, and (potentially) animal studies.

Your profile

Candidates must hold a Master's (MSc or equivalent) degree and a PhD (or equivalent) in synthetic organic or inorganic chemistry and must be ambitious, creative, and fiercely independent. Experience in relevant supramolecular chemistry (cages, rotaxanes, catenanes, etc) is an advantage. Candidates must have an outstanding academic record as evidenced by:
  • First class Bachelor's and Master's degrees (or equivalent qualifications) in chemistry
  • An outstanding PhD in synthetic chemistry
  • Excellent English language skills (written and oral)
  • An excellent record of productivity as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications and academic awards
  • German is advantageous but not essential

What we offer

Academic stipends are commensurate with normal UZH and Swiss National Science Foundation regulations.

Place of work

University of Zurich, Winterthurerstrasse 190, Zürich, Switzerland

Start of employment

Employment start between January and March 2023. Please submit your application by 31.01.2023.

Selection will be based solely on academic excellence and research potential. Short-listed applicants will be interviewed either in person or via video conference call. Applications should be provided as a single PDF file and must include a cover letter with a brief statement of motivation including past research experience/achievements (max. 2 pages), full CV (résumé), and the names and contact details of two referees.
