Postdoctoral Research Associate in Bacterial Protein Transport

Department of Biochemistry, South Parks Road, Oxford

Grade 7: £32,236 - £39,609 p.a.

We are seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Associate to study the bacterial Type 9 Secretion System, building on our recent identification and structural analysis of the Type 9 protein translocon (Nature (2018) 564: 77). You will be required to carry out protein biochemical, cell biological, and live cell fluorescence imaging experiments. You will work closely with a second Postdoctoral Research Associate with expertise in structural biology who is currently being recruited to the same grant programme (see vacancy number 139966 to view this role).

You should hold a PhD/DPhil, or be near completion of a PhD/DPhil in biochemistry, molecular microbiology, or related discipline and have substantive expertise in protein purification, protein characterization, and recombinant DNA techniques. Experience of working with membrane proteins, expertise in bacterial genetics, and expertise in quantitative fluorescence microscopy and image analysis would all be advantageous. You will be highly organised with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team and have good communication skills. A good publication record is expected, taking career stage into account.

This full-time fixed-term post is funded by the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council for up to 3 years in the first instance and is based at the Department of Biochemistry, South Parks Road, Oxford.

The actual starting salary offered will be based on qualifications and relevant skills acquired and will also be determined by the funding available.
