Postdoctoral Research Associate in Physics

Job no: 499524

Work type: Fixed term / Full time

Location: Sydney, NSW

Categories: Post doctoral research fellow

  • One of Australia’s leading research & teaching universities
  • Vibrant campus life with a strong sense of community & inclusion
  • Enjoy a career that makes a difference by collaborating & learning from the best

At UNSW, we pride ourselves on being a workplace where the best people come to do their best work.

The School of Physics is one of the leading Physics schools in Australia. It offers a world class undergraduate physics degree, as well as a postgraduate PhD research program for over 50 students. 33 academic staff conduct theoretical and experimental research in quantum physics, astrophysics, fundamental physics; and condensed matter physics. UNSW is an international leader in quantum computing research and hosts the ARC Centre for Quantum Computation and Communication Technology. Major nodes of two other ARC Centres: Exciton Science; and Future Low-Energy Electronics Technologies are also based at UNSW.

Associate Professor Rahman’s research group develops computational techniques and software for modelling solid-state quantum bits. The group works closely with world-leading experimental groups both at UNSW and elsewhere to understand experimental measurements and to guide quantum device design. The research involves multi-scale modelling of quantum materials and devices ranging from atomistic to continuum methods and from first principles to empirical methods for electronic structure and quantum transport simulations.

The Postdoctoral Research Associate will primarily be working on silicon qubits with the computational tools and techniques developed in Associate Professor Rahman’s group. The Postdoctoral Research Associate is also expected to perform computational methods development relevant to modelling quantum systems. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will work with Tight-Binding, Density Functional Theory, Green’s functions, Hartree Fock, Configuration Interaction, and other Quantum Chemistry techniques.
