Postdoctoral Research Associate in Structural Biology

Department of Biochemistry, South Parks Road, Oxford

Grade 7: £32,236 - £39,609 p.a.

We are seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join an ambitious project in the group of Professor Simon Newstead. The project aims to understand transporter dynamics within the POT family of proton coupled peptide transporters. The project is currently running and we have developed several technology platforms, including lipid cubic phase crystallisation, liposome-based transport assays and single particle cryo-EM imaging, for this role to develop. Specifically, the project seeks to understand the role of lipids in modulating transporter dynamics.

Applicants should hold a PhD/DPhil, or be near completion of a PhD/DPhil, in biochemistry or a related area such as structural biology or biophysics. Experience of recombinant protein expression, purification and either structural determination and or functional analysis using biochemical and biophysical techniques is essential. You will have experience of protein X-ray crystallography and have knowledge of crystallography software such as CCP4 and Phenix crystallographic packages. You should be willing to tackle challenging projects and have the ability to independently analyse data and design biochemical assays to address important mechanistic questions.

This full-time post is funded by BBSRC for up to 17 months in the first instance and is based at the Department of Biochemistry, South Parks Road, Oxford.
