School of Mathematics and Physics 

UQ Physics is part of the School of Mathematics and Physics within the UQ Faculty of Science. The School is one of the strongest groups of physics researchers and teachers in Australia, with expertise in quantum science, biophotonics and laser science, condensed matter physics and astrophysics. It offers a range of undergraduate, postgraduate coursework and higher degree by research programs, including specialist programs and courses in fields ranging from quantum technology to astrophysics.

About This Opportunity

The primary purpose of this position is to carry out research in theoretical condensed matter physics. With a focus on the emergent properties of superconductors, antiferromagnets, and quantum spin liquids. 

This position is located at our picturesque St Lucia campus, renowned as one of Australia’s most attractive university campuses, and located just 7km from Brisbane’s city centre. Bounded by the Brisbane River on three sides, and with outstanding public transport connections, our 114-hectare site provides a perfect work environment – you can enjoy the best of both worlds: a vibrant campus with the tradition of an established university.

Our Ideal Candidate

You will have a strong background in computational condensed matter physics applied to the theory of strongly correlated materials, superconductivity or a closely related area. In particular experience of advanced numerical methods such as density matrix renormalization group/matrix product states, dynamical mean field theory (or its cluster extensions), quantum Monte Carlo, or slave boson methods

What We Can Offer

This is a full-time, fixed term position at Academic level A.

The full-time equivalent base salary will be $84,878.42, plus super of up to 17%.
