The discipline of Physics is located in the School of Mathematics and Physics in the Faculty of Science. The discipline is internationally recognised for its research excellence in quantum science and hosts a number of first class research centres.

 

The University of Queensland and the School of Mathematics and Physics is proud to support a major research effort in quantum physics. It leads the Australian Research Council (ARC) Centre of Excellence for Engineered Quantum Systems (EQUS) led by Prof. Andrew White, and hosts nodes of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Future Low-Energy Electronics Technologies and ARC Centre of Excellence for Quantum Computing and Communication Technology.

About This Opportunity


The successful appointee will actively contribute to an internationally recognized research program in experimental photonic quantum information, with focus on high-dimensional quantum communication. The appointee will develop quantum secret sharing protocols based on time-bin qudits. The project is a close collaboration between theorists and experimentalists, with the view to real-world deployment.

 

This position is located at our picturesque St Lucia campus, renowned as one of Australia’s most attractive university campuses, and located just 7km from Brisbane’s city centre. Bounded by the Brisbane River on three sides, and with outstanding public transport connections, our 114-hectare site provides a perfect work environment – you can enjoy the best of both worlds: a vibrant campus with the tradition of an established university.

 

Our Ideal Candidate


Applicants should possess or be in the process of completing a PhD in Physics, in areas related to Quantum Information or Quantum Engineering. They need to have a strong background and demonstrated ability to carry out research in photonic quantum information, with high-level theoretical and experimental skills in photonic qudits. Experience with single-photon quantum experiments is required. Applicants should also have a track-record of high-quality publications in leading international journals, high-level verbal and written communication skills, and the capacity to work and interact well with colleagues, staff, and students. In addition to these, for Level B applicants, a demonstrated capacity to attract research funding is required.

What We Can Offer


This is a full-time, fixed-term (3 years) appointment at Academic level A or B. The remuneration package will be at $67,542 p.a. – $113,728 p.a. In addition, there will be employer superannuation contributions of up to 17%.
