Summary of Job Duties 

The Postdoctoral Researcher in Water Chemistry Management will be responsible for day-to-day laboratory operations and functions (e.g., cleaning, student lab maintenance duties, ordering, space allocations). They will conduct experimental research on: Development of catalytic materials for water treatment applications; Degradation of water contaminants with experimental catalysts; Adsorption experiments for removal of water contaminants; Materials characterization to understand material properties; and evaluation of catalyst materials as electrocatalysts for water treatment applications.

 

The Postdoctoral Researcher in Water Chemistry Management will also write peer-reviewed papers and present research at national conferences. They will interface and coordinate research effort with project team members, mentor younger researchers, and contribute to proposal writing, group organization, and research development.

Ph.D. obtained by the time of appointment

Ph.D. in chemistry, chemical engineering or related field

Experimental laboratory skills:

– Water chemistry analysis (e.g., composition, pH)

– LC-MS; GC-FID/MS

– Water contaminant testing & experiment setups

– Electrochemistry techniques

– Cyclic voltammetry, chronoamperometry, chronopotentiometry

– Electrochemical data analysis

– Materials characterization (TEM, SEM, XRD, XPS, ICP)

At least 1 first-author peer-reviewed, published journal article

Preferred Qualifications

3-4 publications in peer-reviewed journals

Electrochemical cell design & configuration experience

Cyclic voltammetry, chronoamperometry, chronopotentiometry experience

Electrochemical data analysis experience

Experience with water chemistry research

Nanomaterials synthesis expertise

Aqueous component analysis experience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)     

Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, Origin graphing software, electrochemical potentiostat interfaces.

Public speaking skills

Ability to work in a team environment, work collaboratively, and work on interdisciplinary teams/projects

Experimental wet chemistry lab skills

Physical Conditions         The employee is subject to hazards. Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts or vehicles, electrical current, working in high places, exposure to chemicals, biological, radiological or hazardous materials., The employee is subject to atmospheric conditions. One or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system or the skin: fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation., The worker is required to function in narrow aisles or passageways., None. The employee is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions (such as in typical office or administrative work).

Work Schedule Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
