The Department of Earth and Planetary Science at the University of California, Berkeley seeks applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar to work with Prof. Daniel Stolper in the area of isotope geochemistry. Work will involve applying a newly developed isotopic technique that allows for the measurement of the ‘clumped’ isotopic composition of methyl groups from wood using high-resolution isotope-ratio mass spectrometry. Research questions will be designed and tailored to the postdoctoral scholar’s interests as related to both modern and ancient systems. Research will involve laboratory work and the potential for greenhouse experiments and field sampling depending on the direction of the project. Additional projects involving clumped isotope measurements of methane and carbonates will also be possible. The anticipated start date is Fall 2020 to Winter 2021.

Basic/Minimum qualifications (at time of application):
PhD or equivalent international degree or enrolled in PhD or equivalent international degree program.

Additional qualifications (by start date):

A PhD degree or equivalent international degree is required by the start date.

Preferred qualifications:

PhD degree or equivalent international degree in earth science, plant biology, or related field. Experience in terrestrial biogeochemistry, plant biology, or isotope geochemistry.

Appointment length:

The position is at full time (100%) for 1 year, with an additional 1-year extension based on funding and satisfactory performance.
