Position description

The experimental particle physics group at UC Irvine invites applications for a Postdoctoral research position to work on the ATLAS experiment at the CERN Large Hadron Collider.

The UCI group consists of Profs. Andrew Lankford, Anyes Taffard and Daniel Whiteson. The group has a strong background in searches for physics beyond the Standard Model (SUSY, Higgs sector, Exotic). The group is actively involved in the operation and maintenance of Muon systems (New Small Wheel), Trigger and Data Acquisition and is engaged in the High-Luminosity (HL-LHC) upgrade of the Level-0 a muon trigger using the Monitoring Drift Chambers (MDT) and the event filter track trigger (EFTrack). The group makes use of Machine Learning both for analyses and the trigger upgrades, and use FPGA and heterogenous platform for the trigger upgrades.

The researcher is expected to make significant personal contributions to ATLAS physics analyses as well as the group’s HL-LHC trigger upgrade program, and will work primarily with Prof A. Taf-fard. The applicant should have, or be about to gain, a Ph.D. in particle physics, and is expected to have experience from at least two years of active participation in a leading international particle physics experiment. The applicant should have expertise in data analysis techniques and software systems used in high-energy physics as well as Unix operating systems, C++ programming language and Python. Location will be at UCI and/or CERN based on needs and mutual agreement.

Application instructions:
Interested candidates should apply online at the UC Irvine’s online application system, RECRUIT, located at https://recruit.ap.uci.edu/JPF07338
