The Leibniz Institute for Tropospheric Research e.V. (TROPOS) is an institution of the Leibniz Association and part of the Leibniz Association’s Environmental Sciences Section. It’s the institute’s mission to understand processes and trends in the tropospheric multiphase system with special emphasis on the polluted troposphere. TROPOS offers excellent research infrastructure as well as an international and renowned research environment in the fields of atmospheric physics and chemistry and the modeling of atmospheric processes.

We are looking for an internationally and scientifically recognized personality in the field of experimental aerosol and cloud microphysics. The candidate has proven knowledge in the fields of physical characterization of aerosol and cloud particles as well as aerosol-cloud interactions from fieldwork or laboratory studies.

The applicant practices innovative thinking and has a strong interest in the scientific development of the department. Further duties of the new department head are the active acquisition of third-party funds and to maintain and expand cooperation with national and international institutions. The candidate is experienced in the management of scientific and non-scientific personnel and exhibits a track record in university teaching.

The candidate will cooperate with the other departments of TROPOS as well as with the Leipzig Institute for Meteorology with regard to aerosol and cloud relevant teaching and research. In addition, the new department head will contribute to the national and international activities of the "Aerosol, Clouds, and Trace gas Research InfraStructure" ACTRIS. A cooperation in the Transregio 172 "Arctic Amplification" is desirable.

The rights and duties of the holder of the position result from the Saxon Freedom of Higher Education Act (SächsHSFG) and the Saxon Service Regulations for Higher Education Institutions (DAVOHS). The position entails teaching obligations at the university of up to 4 semester hours per week. Applicants must meet the requirements for appointment according to § 58 SächsHSFG.
