Research Assistant / Associate in Optoelectronics
University of Cambridge Department of Physics
United Kingdom

The Optoelectronics Group of the Department of Physics, University of Cambridge, invites applications for a Research Assistant/Associate to work on the characterisation of the spin and charge transport physics of organic and hybrid organic-inorganic semiconductors. The post is part of a Synergy Grant funded by the European Research Council, which involves a collaboration between the University of Cambridge, the University of Regensburg, Oxford University, the University of Mainz and the Czech Academy of Sciences in Prague. The project is studying the physics of charge and spin transport in highly doped conjugated polymers. The post is based in the group of Prof. Henning Sirringhaus at the Cavendish Laboratory and will be focussed on experimental investigations of materials and device physics.

The role holder will lead investigations of spin injection, spin transport and spin detection in organic semiconductors. The successful candidate will develop and execute their own independent research projects within this remit, under the guidance of the Prof. Sirringhaus, as well as provide day-to-day student supervision. The role holder will also play an active role in the collaboration with our national and international project partners in Oxford, Regensburg, Mainz and Prague.

Appointment as a Research Associate is dependent on having a PhD. Those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD will initially be appointed as a Research Assistant and amended to research associate when the PhD is awarded. The research assistant salary (grade 5) falls within the range £26,715 to £30,942. The research associate (grade 7) salary falls within the range £32,816 to £40,322. The successful candidate will have research experience in the spin physics of organic semiconductors.

The position is available from December 1, 2020.

Please see the attached further information file for the relevant post for more role specific details.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 31 July 2021 in the first instance.
