  • Salary Academic Level A6 + 17% Superannuation and Flexible Working Arrangements

  • Based at the Melbourne CBD campus, but may be required to work and/or be based at other campuses of the University

  • Annual international travel is a requirement for this position.


About the Role
The research project addresses the urgent global concern of arsenic contamination. The complex interplay of iron-arsenic interactions in the presence of organic and biotic systems presents challenges for managing this globally important problem. We aim to shed light on the transformations of host mineral phases controlling arsenic behaviour.


As the Postdoctoral Research Assistant, you will play a crucial role in advancing our understanding of iron-arsenic interactions using innovative experimental infrastructure and advanced tools, contributing to the comprehension of arsenic and iron fate.


To be successful in this position, you’ll meet the following Key Selection Criteria:

  • Demonstrated expertise in soil chemistry or geochemistry with practical experience in utilizing techniques such as XRD, Mass Spectrometry, and/or X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy, or similar, within the Earth Sciences field.

  • Strong evidence of research output, including published papers, conference contributions, and/or technical reports in the relevant field.

  • Proven ability to cultivate alternative funding opportunities by fostering productive relationships with industry and government stakeholders.

  • Exceptional ability to work independently while being a valuable team player, showcasing effective collaboration with colleagues, project team leaders, and industry partners.

  • Demonstrated track record of meeting deadlines and effectively managing diverse workloads while adapting to changing priorities as needed.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills tailored to engage effectively with higher degree by research candidates, staff, and industry partners.

  • Mandatory: PhD in a related field (Environmental Geochemistry, Soil Chemistry or Rhizosphere Science)
