Position Summary

As an experience Research Assistant, you will conduct research activities with the aim of meeting University’s research strategy. You will work independently to further advance your skills and experience in identifying the key physical & chemical conditions for refractory gold and copper recovery.


Roles and Responsibilities

• Carry-out research experiment on understanding the arsenic bearing mineral leaching mechanism and developing arsenic fixation strategy. 
• Conduct solution chemistry analysis and material characterization, including: XRD, Raman, synchrotron based technology like XAS and XCT, surface chemistry (XPS), and electrochemistry.
• Carry-out research/scholarly activities under limited supervision both independently or as a member of a team, including publishing and presenting research outputs at conferences and research forums and contributing to external research funding submissions.
• Conduct, assist and provide high quality research in developing excellent research strategy according to the aims and objectives of University. 
• Contribute 10% of your time to supervise and mentor undergraduate students


Skills and Experience Required

• PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or commensurate experience in related areas with PhD thesis in one or more areas of hydrometallurgy, mineralogy, physical chemistry material science, environmental chemistry or chemical engineering
• Demonstrated experience and in-depth expertise in particularly in sulphide mineral leaching, mineral characterisation, Synchrotron XAS, XPS, XCT and other related characterisation techniques like Raman and electrochemistry
• Proven track record of published research work in reputable journals, conference and technical report
• Possess an excellent record and recognition in generating funding/grants for projects with active liaison with industry and government
• Strong verbal communication and written skills
• Demonstrate the ability to problem-solving on complex situations and the ability to conceptualise ideas to produce results
• Passion and ability to build strong relationships across all levels of professional staff within the organisation.
