Technische Universität Berlin - Faculty II - Institute of Solid State Physics

Research Assistant - 0.75 working time - salary grade E13 TV-L Berliner Hochschulen

Working field:

Participation in the DFG project "Microlaser-excited sources of indistinguishable photons for quantum networks". The project addresses important topics in the field of photonic quantum technology and aims at the development of quantum circuits with semiconductor quantum dots acting as integrated single photon emitters. Our device concept goes far beyond the existing approaches by applying monolithically integrated microlasers to resonantly excite quantum dots in waveguide structures for the on-chip generation of indistinguishable photons. The planned activities in the exciting and highly topical area include the design and numerical optimization of the integrated quantum circuits, the deterministic fabrication using in-situ electron beam lithography and the optical and quantum-optical study of the circuits. The project work lays the foundation for highly functional, complex photonic quantum components, which will be key building blocks of future quantum communication systems and quantum computers. The project is carried out in close cooperation with the partner groups of Prof. Gregor Weihs, University of Innsbruck, and Dr. Tobias Huber, University of Würzburg.

Requirements:

Successfully completed university degree (Master, Diplom or equivalent) in physics or similar courses with in-depth knowledge and experience in the manufacture and optical as well as quantum optical study of low-dimensional semiconductor materials, in particular in the context of the final thesis, preferably in the field of integrated quantum nanophotonics; Experience in the field of optical and quantum-optical studies of single photon emitters, microlasers and photonic circuits based on semiconductors is desirable; also the willingness to interdisciplinary cooperation with external project groups. Good command of German and/or English required; willingness to learn either English or German is expected.

How to apply:

Please send your application with the reference number and the appropriate documents (CV, certificates, a list of publications, and names and contact details of referees) by email (in a single pdf file, max 5 MB) to reitzenstein.office@physik.tu-berlin.de.
