Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 31/03/2021 in the first instance with a possibility of extensions for up to two years contingent on renewal of funding.

A position exists for a Research Associate/Research Assistant in Advanced Cathodes for Li-ion Batteries at The Quantum Matter Group at the Department of Physics, University of Cambridge. The aim of the role is to develop and carry out research on novel cathodes and thin film electrodes for Li-ion batteries. The postholder will work within the Faraday Institution Futurecat Project and will be expected to work closely with others within the collaboration. The roleholder will work in the Dutton Group. The successful candidate will hold (or be close to obtaining) a PhD in physical science or engineering or a closely related discipline with a proven track record in materials chemistry or condensed matter physics. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in materials synthesis, structural characterisation as demonstrated by publications in major journals. A solid understanding of electrochemistry is desirable. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to the formulation and submission of research publications and research proposals as well as help manage and direct this complex and challenging project as opportunities allow.

The post holder will be located at the Department of Physics, Cavendish Laboratory, JJ Thomson Avenue, Cambridge, CB3 0HE, UK.

Salary Ranges: Research Assistant: £26, 715 to £30, 942 (Grade 5); Research Associate: £32, 816 to £40, 322 (Grade 7).
