Research Assistant/Associate in Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology
University of Cambridge Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology
United Kingdom

The Ahnert Group in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology wishes to recruit a Research Assistant/Associate.

The postholder will join the Ahnert group in the Department of Chemical Engineering & Biotechnology. The group aims to find new ways to describe and study the emergence of structural and functional complexity in biology, mainly through computational models and data analysis. Areas of focus include evolutionary simulations, RNA and protein structure, and genotype-phenotype maps. A further interest of the research group lies in network analysis and its interdisciplinary applications.

This project investigates the structure of genotype-phenotype (GP) maps using computational approaches, with a particular focus on the large-scale structure of the protein secondary structure GP map and its implications for protein evolution. Potential applications of this research that will be explored include predictions of virus evolution in humans and pathogen evolution in plants. This post is part-funded by the Isaac Newton Trust.

We welcome applications from a wide range of backgrounds in the physical, mathematical, and biological sciences, and engineering from applicants who are enthusiastic about interdisciplinary research and collaboration.
