Universität Hamburg invites applications for a Research Associate for the projects


1. Laser-induced chirality in molecules and fundamental symmetry aspects (experiment)
2. Laser-induced chirality in molecules and fundamental symmetry aspects (theory)
3. Laser-induced electron diffraction of chemical dynamics (experiment)
4. Imaging controlled nanoparticles: Cooling, controlling, and imaging of nanoparticles (exp.)
5. Novel electrospray sources for atomic-resolution single-particle imaging (experiment)
in accordance with Section 28 subsection 3 of the Hamburg higher education act (Hamburgisches Hochschulgesetz, HmbHG). The position commences on as soon as possible.


It is remunerated at the salary level TV-L 13 and calls for 75 % of standard work hours per week*.


The fixed-term nature of this contract is based upon Section 2 of the academic fixed-term labor
contract act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz, WissZeitVG). The term is fixed for a period of 3
years.

Responsibilities:
Duties include academic services in the project named above. Research associates can also pursue independent research and further academic qualifications.


Specific Duties:
In these experiments you work on forefront experimental setups for the control and atomic-resolution imaging of molecules and molecular structures. This includes the extension of experimental setups with novel techniques for improved control as well as for better highest-resolution imaging at the fastest to timescales. These setups will be exploited in in-house table-top
experiments as well as incollaborative campaigns in laboratories across Germany and Europe
and at large-scale facilities in Hamburg (Petra, FLASH, Eu.XFEL) and worldwide. In the various
projects, techniques range from the control of small/moderate-size molecules with electric and
laser fields over hydrodynamic focusing and cryogeneic buffer-gas cooling of (biological and artificial) nanoparticles, which can also be focused in funnels of light.


All experiments are complemented with theory within our group and in collaboration with partners in Hamburg and outside. Specifically, the announced theory position is for the development
of descriptions of the creation and the probing of chirality, which has most significant applications from fundamental physics to the complexity of life.


Requirements:
A university degree in a relevant field. Strong motivation for independent research work within
the team and collaborations.
