Job Purpose

Project title: Quantum and Computational imaging

Project description:

QuantIC is the UK Hub for Quantum Imaging and has just been renewed by EPSRC for a further 5 years, starting December 2019. QuantIC brings together academics and their research teams from Glasgow, Bristol, Edinburgh, Exeter, Heriot-Watt, Imperial College, Southampton and Strathclyde working together with more than 30 industrial partners in emerging quantum or quantum inspired imaging technologies.

We are hiring up to 4 positions in the area of quantum and or computational imaging to work within the groups of Miles Padgett and Daniele Faccio, in collaboration with our academic and industrial partners. At least two of the positions are expected to be in very close collaboration with the team lead by Roderick Murray-Smith in computing sciences at UoG with a particular emphasis on image retrieval and machine learning techniques.

The expectation is that the research will cover a range of imaging opportunities, for example next generation LIDAR, imaging behind corners, imaging through scattering media with biomedical applications, quantum LIDAR, single-photon upconversion, imaging with entangled photons and single photon imaging in the mid-infrared.

Standard Terms & Conditions

Salary will be on the University’s Research and Teaching Grade, level 7, £35,210 - £39,610 per annum.

These 4 posts are full time with funding up to 3 years in the first instance.

New entrants to the University will be required to serve a probationary period of 6 months.

The successful applicant will be eligible to join the Universities' Superannuation Scheme. Further information regarding the scheme is available from the Superannuation Officer, who is also prepared to advise on questions relating to the transfer of Superannuation benefits.

Relocation assistance will be provided where appropriate.

All research and related activities, including grants, donations, clinical trials, contract research, consultancy and commercialisation are required to be managed through the University’s relevant processes (e.g. contractual and financial), in accordance with the University Court’s policies.

It is the University of Glasgow’s mission to foster an inclusive climate, which ensures equality in our working, learning, research and teaching environment.

We strongly endorse the principles of Athena SWAN, including a supportive and flexible working environment, with commitment from all levels of the organisation in promoting gender equality.
