RESEARCH ASSOCIATE FOR THE PROJECT “Cluster of
Excellence 'Advanced Imaging of Matter' - Assembly and dynamics of liquid dense protein clusters”


- SALARY LEVEL 13 TV-L -


The position in accordance with Section 28 subsection 3 of the Hamburg higher education act
(Hamburgisches Hochschulgesetz, HmbHG) commences on 6 May 2019.


This is a fixed-term contract in accordance with Section 2 of the academic fixed-term labor contract act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz, WissZeitVG). The term is fixed for a period of3 years.


The position calls for 75 % of standard work hours per week**.


Responsibilities:
Duties include academic services in the project named above. Research associates may also pursue independent research and further academic qualifications.


Specific Duties:
Investigate formation and dynamics of liquid dense clusters (LDCs) of proteins, utilising laboratory-based tools such as dynamic light scattering and microscopy, as well as facilities including
cryo-electron microscopy and X-ray synchrotron and free-electron lasers. With a team, develop
the use of LDCs for time-resolved and single-particle X-ray FEL imaging experiments. This may
involve using electric fields and magnetic fields to align molecules in LDCs and to support the
formation of LDCs, or to tune other new functionalities.


Requirements:
A university degree in a relevant field. A background in physics, chemistry, or biochemistry is
desired, with a strong excitement for experimental research. The candidate must enjoy working
in an interdisciplinary team environment, and must have excellent communication skills.
