RESEARCH ASSOCIATE FOR THE PROJECT “Cluster of Excellence 'Advanced Imaging of Matter' -Cavity-QED with squeezed light


The position in accordance with Section28 subsection3 of the Hamburg higher education act (Hamburgisches Hochschulgesetz, HmbHG)commences on 1 July 2019.

This is a fixed-term contract in accordance with Section2of the academic fixed-term labor con-tract act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz, WissZeitVG). The term is fixed for a period of2years.The position calls for 39 hours per week.


Duties include academic services in the project named above. Research associates may also pur-sue independent research and further academic qualifications.

Specific Duties:

Coordinating and supporting experimental work in the laboratory, coordinating and supporting collaboration with theory partners.


A university degree in a relevant subject plus doctorate. The candidate will investigate a cavity QED system, comprising a Bose-Einstein condensate in a high finesse low bandwidth optical resonator, pumped by a squeezed light source, in a collaborative project between the research groups of Prof. Roman Schnabel, Prof. Ludwig Mathey, and Prof. Andreas Hemmerich. The candidateshould provide a PhD in experimental AMO physics along with a solid background with respect to the fields of quantum optics, quantum gas physics, and quantum many-body physics in general. We are seeking someone, who in addition to extensive laboratory expertise, is capable to take a leading role in the coordination of the communication and collaboration between the project partners.
