Research Associate in Adsorbent Synthesis
University of Cambridge Department of Chemistry
United Kingdom

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 1 year in the first instance.

Applications are invited for a post-doctoral research associate to join the group of Dr Alexander Forse at the Department of Chemistry at the University of Cambridge. This EPSRC-funded project will develop electrochemical methods to synthesise a new class of adsorbent materials for carbon dioxide capture from dilute sources.

Research in the Forse group centers around the development of new materials for climate change mitigation. In this project we will develop a new electrochemical approach for synthesizing functionalized adsorbents for carbon dioxide capture. The overarching aims of this post-doctoral position are (i) explore a new electrochemical method for preparing a new class of adsorbent materials, and (ii) develop functionalized adsorbents with excellent performance for carbon dioxide capture.

Day to day, the project will involve assembling electrochemical cells and performing electrochemistry measurements, characterizing the structures of functionalized electrodes, and carrying out gas adsorption measurements. The successful applicant will benefit from access to gas adsorption instruments and potentiostats, as well as state of the art spectroscopy resources, as required for this project.

Applicants must have obtained (or be about to obtain) a PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering or similar. Ideally applicants would have expertise in either (i) gas sorption, and/or (ii) electrochemistry.

We strongly encourage you to apply if you are interested, and we are keen to see as many applications as possible from BAME applicants, women, applicants with diverse gender identities, and other underrepresented groups. We encourage good work-life balance, and accommodate flexible working arrangements.
